Welcome to my life as fashion

I'm Summer Edwards. I'm a twenty-something year old chick with a lot on my plate. A friend of mine says I'm a super hero! Ha ha! I work in an office (my Clark Kent/Peter Parker image, if you will) I also do hair and makeup for photo shoots, fashion shows, and events. In addition to that, I launched a fashion line. I also talk a lot about a nutrition company because their products make me feel AWESOME!!!! I'm a jack of all trades and I like to stay busy. If it relates to the fashion industry in any way, I'm interested in it!

Fashion Protagonist Recreations Part 1

As anyone who really knows me can confirm, I have way too many ideas and no where near the amount of time or energy to complete them all. That being said, I am super excited  that I have finally started a project that has been floating around in my brain for a long time. I have partnered with the very amazing, very talented, and very funny, Steve DeMent to do a series of photo shoots showing a modern fashion recreation of the female protagonist in folk lore, mythology and classic fairy tales (not Disney).

We are doing a shoot every month. I am doing hair, makeup, wardrobe design and styling. So far we have completed 3 and are getting ready for the 4th! The series' formal name is "Fashion Protagonist Recreations" but for the most part people (including Steve and me) are calling it our princess series.... which is fine. Whatever! lol

Anyways, here are some shots from our first 3 female protagonists...

The Princess and the Frog
For our first Princess we contacted Blue Madrigal (yes, her name is really Blue!), whom I had worked with during Austin's 2011 Fashion Week. She is an amazing model and so beautiful. She was a total blast to work with and a really good sport while we shot her in cold water!
Her choker necklace was custom made to go with this dress, specifically for this shoot, courtesy of Shalottlilly

Cinderella
For our second Princess, I got in contact with Jennifer Lynn Larsen, whom I also worked with during Austin Fashion Week. Our point to go against Disney guidelines was really driven home with this look. When I first contacted Jen about portraying Cinderella her response was "You know I have red hair, right?" Hair color aside, I think she did an amazing job portraying the vulnerability, innocence, and strength of the character.

These amazing Hair clips were custom creation from Shalottlilly, made to go with this gown, specifically for this shoot!

Death
For our third installment we chose Death. Typically portrayed as a Grimm Reaper, which I guess is not assigned a sex although I have always perceived it as male, we decided to create a female version which we wanted to exude a nurturing attitude. Our hope was that we could create an image that would show a compassionate death. For this we chose Daley Hodges... another model who was featured in my Austin Fashion Week show. LOL. Daley has a mystery, a darkness, and an understated potency that made her an obvious choice for this role.

The final image for our Death recreation has not been finished. These are just a few that were done first to use to sell the dress!

I hope this has piqued your interest and gotten you wondering what is coming next. Steve and I are still thinking up who we will be portraying and gladly welcome suggestions of stories from folklore, mythology, history, and classic fairy tales that we can draw inspiration from so please feel free to send some ideas our way!

<3 Summer
